Product Description
The diameter of a fi bre including coating is exactly 125µm. The ferrule in in the connector has a bore for this diameter. During the manufacturing process, the fi ber is pushed into this little bore, is glued and polished. The bigger the bore, the less central the fi ber can be put. In our assemblies we exclusively use ferrules with a bore of max. 125,5µm, meaning our fi bre has a room of only 0,5µm.
The ferrules are carefully selected, since only very few meet these requirements. The ferrules with greater tolerances are obviously easier to produce in large quantities and correspondingly also cheaper, however, you have to accept the drawback in quality due to the bigger bores.
Such standard ferrules generally offered on the market have tolerances of 128,5µm +/- 1µm. A simple calculation demonstrates the obvious disadvantage the impact may be in practice: Singlemode has a core diameter of 9µm. By using a ferrule with 128,5µm, you can face a core shift of 7µm if both fi bres are turning in the opposite direction when putting it in the ferrule. Our ferrules minimize this problem at its best possible extent.
Our singlemode ferrules have a bore with a diameter of 125,5µm for multimode the standard singlemode ferrules with 126,5µm is used, as for the 50µm multimode the tolerances may be a bit bigger.
