Rode VideoMic NTG Directional Microphone
Extremely versatile directional microphone for DSLR and video cameras, which can also be used as a USB or smartphone microphone. The VideoMic NTG offers a wealth of switching options and functions that leave hardly anything to be desired, while delivering top sound quality with a fantastically transparent and completely coloration-free sound. Since it is extremely light at 94 g, it also represents a serious alternative to conventional boom microphones for film sound engineers - a 3/8" thread is embedded in the flash base to which the boom can be attached. Good to know: the VideoMic NTG does not need batteries, the integrated rechargeable battery provides the necessary power for more than 30 hours, charging is done via the integrated USB-C socket, the charging process is completed in 2 hours.
With the VideoMic NTG you get a professional directional microphone that was primarily developed for use with a DSLR or video camera. A novelty here: the red Rycote® swing-arm mount can be moved horizontally if necessary to optimally adjust the microphone position to the camera being used. A 3/8" thread is also integrated in the base of the swing mount, and the VideoMic NTG can also be easily mounted on a tripod or boom. The supercardioid capsule has a narrow 45° angle of incidence on average and excellent lateral damping.
The 3.5 mm jack socket of the VideoMic NTG can be connected to the three-pin microphone input of a camera (TRS) or to the four-pin jack socket of a smartphone (TRSS) using the included special cable SC10: the VideoMic NTG has an automatic TRS/TRRS detection and changes the assignment of its socket accordingly, an adapter is not necessary. Talking about special cables: the SC10 can be clamped into the holder and perfectly nestled to the housing, due to its special consistency it cannot flicker, thus eliminating the corresponding noise.
The VideoMic NTG is also a pure USB microphone with built-in audio interface. With the included USB cable (USB C to USB A), you can connect it to your computer - it is recognized immediately without driver installation - and use it for dubbing videos. With an optional SC15 cable it can also be connected digitally to an iPhone with a Lightning Port. In both cases, the 3.5 mm jack socket of the VideoMic NTG serves as an adjustable headphone output - it couldn't be more convenient!
With a sensitivity of 50 mV, the VideoMic NTG is really "loud", so that the preamplifiers of downstream devices can be set to a noise-reducing low level. Another novelty and extremely practical: You can control the recording directly at the microphone, there is a large knob on the back for this purpose. A peak LED, which is located in the first row of LEDs on the far right, also helps with level control. If it lights red, it is a very loud sound source, which already overdrives the input circuitry of the VideoMic NTG. In this case you should activate the -20 dB pre-attenuation.
